Arm Lift
Brachioplasty, also known as arm lift, is a surgery indicated for the treatment of sagging, excess skin and fat in the arm region, especially the triceps region (“bye-bye muscle”), with the purpose of improving its contours and providing firmness.
Indication
It is indicated for people with sagging and excess skin on the arms due to weight loss (bariatric surgery), aging or genetic conditions.
What is the surgery like?
It consists of repositioning the skin of the arm, removing excess sagging skin, and may be combined with liposuction in cases of localized fat to obtain a more complete result. Anesthesia can be general or local with sedation for approximately 12 hours of hospitalization.
What is the post-operative period like?
After surgery, there may be bandages wrapped in elastic bandages under the incisions to minimize swelling, and a drain may be placed under the skin to drain any excess blood and fluid. Swelling and bruising may occur in cases where liposuction was necessary. For a few weeks, it is necessary to avoid intense movement of the arms and wear a compression garment on the arms for 30 days. Do not expose the operated area to the sun. Painkillers may be prescribed. Lymphatic drainage may be indicated.
When will normal activities be resumed?
The recovery period can vary from four to six weeks, and the recommendation is that the patient wait at least two months to return to physical activities. Exercises focused on the arm should not be practiced until medical clearance.
